This is one of the earliest scholarly studies on the Albanians, who were little known in Europe at the time. After a short introduction, Thunmann reproduces the Latin-Vlach-Albanian dictionary of Theodor Kavalliotis of Voskopoja (Moschopolis) with some notes on the Albanian and Vlach (Aromanian) languages, and then offers a history of the Albanians that is surprisingly detailed for the period. The section on Albanian history is given here in full, though without the footnotes. Modern place names have been added in square brackets for the translation.
